In light of the recent global events, the rapid speed at which technology is advancing and with cyberattacks getting more elaborate, innovation is becoming increasingly important for organizations to survive and flourish. Technological advancement brings with it a new set of risks and challenges. With the global revolution in the ICT sector, it becomes progressively important that the significance of technology stretches beyond the confines of individual sectors and industries, in todays day and age it is important that governments get involved to ensure that the right set of policies, procedures and infrastructure exist.

The ICT strategy plays a very important role under Egypt’s vision 2030 to build a digital Egypt. There are a number of objectives under the vision of a “Digital Egypt”, like developing the infrastructure, promoting digital equity and inclusion, transitioning to a knowledge based economy, fostering innovation, building capacity, promoting cybersecurity and to position Egypt as a technologically developed and advanced economy in the region. At the event we will talk about the various initiatives being taken by the different government entities; and how industries and individual organizations can align themselves with these initiatives by implementing the required solutions.

WHY EGYPT?

  • Egypt is undergoing a digital revolution; under the government’s vision 2030 establishing the country as digital economy is of utmost importance. The government is heavily investing in building the right ecosystem to foster the development of a digital economy, under this regimen the focus is on developing a conducive ICT infrastructure, providing the right skill-set to develop the right human capital and put together a set of policies and procedures to oversee the implementation of IT security tools and compliance with the set industrial standard to help reduce risk of IT breaches.
  • Aligned with the Egypt Vision 2030 and Egypt’s digital transformation strategy, the MCIT (Ministry of Communications and Information Technology) has embarked on building a Digital Egypt. Digital Egypt lays all the foundations for transforming Egypt into a digital society. To steer this into a digital society and economy this will encompass digital transformation, digital innovation, and digital jobs and skills.
  • A PwC report called the potential of AI in the Middle east states that Egypt aims to have 7.7 percent of its GDP derived through AI by 2030.
  • The Egypt FWD initiative under the vision of Digital Egypt strategy formed by MCIT and powered by ITIDA (Information Technology Industry Development Agency) launched the Future work is digital initiative. “The initial shift to the digital sphere by most businesses caused a surge in demand for) to equip and train 100,000 young Egyptian through ITIDA and Udacity virtual academy for digital technologies and skills to remote work.
  • ICT services and highlighted the need to expand infrastructure and capacity further. Trends such as the wider acceptance of remote work, digital payments, and e-commerce platforms are expected to accelerate in the years ahead.
